Twirl and Taste: Old Fashioned Buttermilk Biscuits will remind you of your Southern Grandmother's biscuits, or make you wish you had a Southern grandmother!

2 cups sifted Martha White flour or all-purpose flour
(sift before measuring)
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salthttps://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhxNLzVnJcLtLKo2VmDoWAUirDjSWs3fpfr_IEEhXjihTxhAUNw2alcyTOlpST7Z2G4IUxXKOjCxqrFt7pFWTpQCrh3UExJSO9btqBjJrvJjiOlaijDhxGxdAF4oUi68e8qwlqjV7X4x0/s1600/biscuits+pan+Christmas2.JPG
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
5 tablespoons chilled vegetable shortening
or lard (makes the best biscuits)
1 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 440 degrees with rack in the middle. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. . Add shortening, coating it with flour, then rub between your fingertips until coarsely blended with some 1/2-inch lumps. Make a well in the flour mixture and then add buttermilk, stirring with a fork just until dough forms and holds together (it will be soft and sticky.)

Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times. Too much kneading leads to tough biscuits. Roll out dough with a floured rolling pin into a 12-inch round (1/2-3/4 inch thick) and, using a fork dipped in flour, prick all the way through about every 1/2 inch.

The Weeping Cherry Tree

I just love Weeping Cherry Trees.  These trees are so beautiful, especially in early Spring, when they first bloom out.  Mine is a little thin, I guess but, it is still very pretty to me.  I hope it continues to thrive into a large massive tree but, I will just have to wait and see...

Our Red bud Tree

This is a picture of our Red bud Tree in our yard.  While the Red bud usually flowers out in April, this year with everything blooming out so early, our tree bloomed out in March, about four weeks early.  This weather seems to be crazy this year, and the temperature really got kinda hot real fast.  Thus, having everything, also, bloom out early.  But, they are real pretty this year and colorful.

Spring Has Sprung

I always know when Spring has finally made it's way home by the flowering of the Forsythia Bush.  The Forsythia has always been my favorite Spring item because it is always the first to sprout it's vibrant color of bright, sunny yellow.  No matter how long, or short, the Winter seems, the Forsythia Bush always lets me know when it's time to say hello Spring.

Killdeer

This is not a real good picture.  But,  I still wanted to share a picture of a killdeer that migrate to my fields at home, usually in the spring and they stay all summer and early fall.  We usually have several different nest of these birds.  I always find these birds very interesting to watch and look forward to their arrival.  Even though sometimes they sure drive our dogs nuts!

The 1937 Ford Coupe

Now, what country home is complete without a few (boy toys).  This is my father-in law, husband, and my son's 1937 ford coupe completely redone all original.  And, coming-soon will be a 1939 Chevy truck , all roded out with allot of "eye candy".

The Jelly Cupboard

Well, since this blog is actually called the Jam and Jelly
Jar Box. I thought I would share my Jelly and Jam cupboard.
Yes, I do make allot of jelly, jam and sauces.  I have canning books that range form 1920 to the present.  Some of my work has even been known to win a few ribbons at the local fair. While my stock is getting a bit low for the winter, I am sure come spring I will get the canning bug and start all over again.
